RIEGL VZ-i series GNSS support

This article discusses using a GNSS receiver with a RIEGL VZ-i series laser scanner

1 General

There are two reasons for using GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) in
connection with a scanner of the RIEGL VZ-i Series.

  • Position Information: Adding position information to the scan data.
  • Time Synchronization: Synchronizing the scan data time information with the time of the GNSS receiver.
Depending on configuration and cabling, it is possible to handle:
  • position data
  • time data for synchronization
  • position data and time data

The scanner differs between three main GNSS configurations:

  • internal receiver
  • external user specific receiver
  • RIEGL VZ-i GNSS RTK receiver
