How to resolve the FEE error
Nikon cameras sometimes display the error "FEE". This article contains some troubleshooting information.
The "FEE" error indicates a problem in the connection between the lens and the camera. The camera is not receiving aperture information from the lens anymore.
The camera will not be able to take photographs while the error is present.
What steps can I try to resolve the error?
Check the contacts
You can try to remove the lens and mount it back on the camera properly to ensure there is no contact problem. This will involve loosening the two thumbscrews that hold the part of the camera mount that clamps around the lens. Once loosened, remove the lens by pressing the release button on the camera body, and turning the lens.
Inspect the contacts on the lens and the camera body. Check the lens contact pins move freely in and out. Clean both sets of contacts with an alcohol wipe. Look for any signs of corrosion, which might lead to a bad connection.
Check the lens aperture ring
The aperture ring is normally set to a specific value at the factory, and then locked. For example, it is set to f/22 for a 14mm lens. Normally, the aperture ring is not accessible without removing RIEGL's protective ring. If you have to remove it, then full camera calibration is needed afterwards.
Having the ring set to f/22 enable the camera body to have full control of the aperture size.
