How do I configure a single-instance license when I don't have a server?

Single-instance licences (SILs) are designed to run on a network on a server-client basis. This article explains how to configure your software installation when you don't have a network.

This article is relevant if you have the following scenario:

  • you have a single-instance licence (SIL) for RiSCAN PRO or RiSOLVE
  • you don't have a server computer on which to install LicenseServer to host your licences
  • you have a single computer, on which you need to install and use the licence

Note - the same steps apply to both RiSCAN PRO and RiSOLVE. For simplicity, only RiSCAN PRO will be referred to in this article.

Install RiSCAN PRO

Download the latest version of RiSCAN PRO from the Members' Area of riegl.com. Run the installer, but pay attention to the "Choose Components" screen - you need to untick "LicenseProxy" and tick "LicenseServer":

Continue the installation as normal.

After installation, plug your green RIEGL dongle into your machine. It should have an "S" prefix, to indicate that it is a "server" dongle.

Import your licence keys

In the Windows search box, type LicenseServer, and open LicenseServer Administration Center.

Navigate to Licenses > Import... and select your licence file (with the extension .lic).

Confirm that your licence keys have been imported. If you see only yellow headers, double-click a header to expand that section.

Configure RiSCAN PRO

Run RiSCAN PRO, and navigate to Tool > License Center. You can also launch LicenseCenter directly from the Windows search box.

On the Additional tab, click the "Add" button. On the "Host" field, type 127.0.0.1. Leave the "Port" field as it is.

add-server

Right-click the newly added server in the list, and click "Test", to test the connection to the server.

If successful, run the "Report" option, which will check for available licences. Find the licences you have in the message log, and confirm that they have been correctly found.
